CIBC is one of two major banks (alongside TD) that issues Aeroplan co-branded credit cards in Canada. If you fly Air Canada and want direct Aeroplan earning, a CIBC or TD Aeroplan card is your best option. CIBC also offers the Aventura rewards program as an alternative to Aeroplan for those who want more flexibility in how they redeem points.

CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite: The Core Card

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite ($139/year) is CIBC's flagship Aeroplan card. It earns 1.5 Aeroplan points per dollar at grocery stores, gas stations, Air Canada, and drug stores, and 1 point everywhere else. The current welcome offer provides up to 50,000 Aeroplan points. The card also includes a free first checked bag on Air Canada, and an Aeroplan 500 Mile Minimum Earning Bonus on Air Canada flights.

CIBC vs TD Aeroplan cards

CIBC and TD both issue Aeroplan cards at virtually identical earn rates and fees. The main differentiators are the banks' other product relationships — if you already bank with CIBC, their Aeroplan card integrates better with your existing accounts. Both cards earn Aeroplan directly and offer the same Air Canada perks.

CIBC Aventura: When You Want Flexibility

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite ($139/year) earns points in the Aventura program rather than Aeroplan. Aventura points can be redeemed through the CIBC Rewards Centre for flights on any airline (not just Air Canada), hotel stays, and car rentals. This flexibility is valuable for travellers who fly multiple airlines. Welcome offer: up to 35,000 Aventura Points.

CIBC for Premium Travellers

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege ($599/year) is designed for frequent Air Canada flyers. It earns 2 Aeroplan points per dollar at grocery stores and 1.5 points everywhere else, provides Aeroplan 50K elite status (conditional on spending thresholds), and includes comprehensive lounge access and travel insurance. For Air Canada Super Elite or Altitude members, this card stacks with their status benefits.
